Craft: Painted Ceramic Coasters

My sister-in-law is getting married this weekend, and for one of her shower gifts, I made a set of coasters in style with her coastal wedding. I had so much fun making these, and here are some instructions so you can try it out, too! Overall, the project costs less than $10, but it does require some planning to let the paint dry before baking.

NC State Belltower + Chisel Font

Last Monday was a great day for the Wolfpack at NC State. After a big 125th birthday celebration, a great team of people unveiled the new bells for the campus’s iconic bellower. Spearheaded by friend and former coworker, Matt Robbins, this campaign has been long and hard-fought, and it was incredible to see it come to fruition. For a history of the bellower, check out this site.

A few years ago, I designed a typeface called “Chisel” based on a verse on one of the doors at the base of the tower. I was so thrilled that Matt used this typeface on the labels for the really incredible model he built of the tower. You can see the model in person at the D.H. Hill library.

March 11, 2011

A little over a year ago was quite an incredible day. My boyfriend (now husband) and I drove down to his hometown at the beach, and he surprised me with a walk out on Ocean Isle Beach. As we strolled the strand on that chilly March day, we stopped at a sandcastle, identical to one that we built together years before during our freshman year spring break, where he proposed! After that, he blew me away by arranging our best friends to celebrate throughout the whole weekend.

My friend, Allyson, took video of the event, and I’ve edited the footage with some super stealth photos from our friend, Andy. The music is “The First Day of My Life” by Bright Eyes. Check out the video for lots of giggles, smiles and celebrating!
